More
than 15,000 students under the banner of Twipra Students Federation on
Saturday, September 21 marched through the streets of the state capital raising
a vociferous demand for inclusion of the name Ujjayanata in the Tripura state
museum slated to be inaugurated by the Vice President Hamid Ansari on
Wednesday. Unprecedented enthusiasm and euphoria was seen among the students
who came from Sadar North, Sadar East and parts of Bisalgarh subdivision. So
overwhelmed were the INPT leaders by the huge response of the TSF march that
they claimed that the vexed issue of Ujjayanta palce will help them gather
momentum in the run up to their march slated to take place on Saturday next.
The sheer call by Maharaja Pradyot who had appealed to cross section of the
people to oppose the move of the state government seems to have worked wonders
and there was a march of the young brigade in the state capital that was not
witnessed in recent times.
Heavy police
bandobast was undertaken and DSP Central Rajendra Dutta was seen overseeing the
deployment of a big TSR contingent to keep tabs on those who took part in the
march. He was later joined by Additional SP Manik Das. Upen Debbarma of TSF
later led a delegation of TSF leaders to Rajbhan where a memorandum was
submitted to Governor Debananda Konwar. With the success of the march today the
momentum seems to have shifted all of a sudden and Maharaja Pradyot is the one
who is getting all the support as well as sympathy of cross section of the
people. Under such circumstances it remains to be seen whether or not the Vice
President goes ahead with his visit or not which will definitely be
controversial to say the least. Earlier President Pranab Mukherjee had landed
in controversy after he decided to inaugurate the Palatana power plant inspite
of the fact that all was not going well in the plant. Soon after the President
left production came to a grinding halt and till date it has not reached the
full capacity.
